The development of the NSX began in 1984 with the HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental) concept, which initially featured a 3.0-liter V6 engine. Honda's goal was to create a vehicle that could rival the performance of contemporary V8 powered Ferraris while offering greater reliability and a more accessible price point. The concept evolved into the NS-X, standing for "New," "Sportscar," "eXperimental," although the final production model was simply named NSX. Designed by Chief Designer Masahito Nakano and Executive Chief Engineer Shigeru Uehara, the NSX incorporated advanced aerodynamics with styling cues inspired by the F-16 fighter jet cockpit. The final stages of development also included valuable input from Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna, who provided feedback on the car's handling and performance, contributing to its exceptional driving dynamics.

The NSX distinguished itself as the first production car to feature an all-aluminum semi-monocoque structure, a design that significantly reduced weight and improved handling. This innovative structure, combined with an all-aluminum 3.0-liter V6 engine equipped with Honda's VTEC system, set the NSX apart from its competitors. Unveiled at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, the NSX went into production in a dedicated factory in Japan and was available for purchase by those salivating for a new sports cars concept beginning in 1990.

From the 1992 model year, this NSX stands out as one of only 288 cars sold new in the U.S. market that year with the highly desirable five-speed manual transmission in sleek Berlina Black over Black. Today, this rarely seen, unmodified example is offered with just 60,646 miles at the time of cataloging and remains in splendid condition, a testament to the care it has received from its enthusiastic owners. The clutch was reported to have been replaced under previous ownership in 2015, with only a few thousand miles driven since its replacement.
