1975 Dutch Grand Prix Oil painting James Hunt/Niki Lauda
Lot 204 | Memorabilia Online - Part 1
James Hunt and Niki Laudas rivalry is a well-known and more often linked with the 1976 season. In the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix held at Zandvoort the duo had a fierce battle with the Austrian driver having started on pole in his Ferrari 312T with Hunt lining up 3rd in his Hesketh 308. With the race delayed due to rainstorms the field all started on wet weather tyres, but Hunt was the first to switch to slicks and he quickly gained time on the rest of the field, taking the lead by the 15th of 75 laps. Lauda did his best to catch up, but the Englishman resisted to take his debut win and the sole F1 victory for the Hesketh team.
This attractive oil painting (approx 60 x 45cm) painted in 1975 by Eric Gibbins shows the battle between the two rivals.
