Chassis number 001

From the late 1950s onwards, Brabham as a name in motor racing, was synonymous with success at the fore front of the sport. Jack Brabham was a three-time Formula One World Champion and astonishingly won his last Championship in a team and car bearing his own name. A feat which to date has never been repeated.

Brabham as a team went on to win further World Championships with Denny Hulme & Nelson Piquet whilst multiple race wins were also achieved with the likes of Graham Hill, Jacky Ickx, Carlos Reutemann & Niki Lauda.

The Brabham BT60 was the final series of cars produced for the team and the BT60Y was their entry for the 1991 Formula One season. Powered by the Yamaha OX99 3.5 V12 engine (the Y in the chassis designation being for Yamaha) the team hired Brits Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell to lead the charge in that year's campaign.

This car, chassis 001 was used by Martin Brundle in the San Marino Grand Prix weekend where he qualified a respectful 18th (out of 30) and finished 11th in the race itself. It was also used in practice by the team for the Monaco Grand Prix and then acted as the primary spare for the rest of the year.

The car was also used in testing across the year although specific chassis records don't exist from that period it likely acted as the car in which up and coming German driver Heinz Harald Frentzen did his first Formula One test.

Sold today as a 'show car' complete with it's original gearbox casing but without engine and other running gear, it represents a wonderful opportunity to have a fantastic display piece with genuine Brabham Formula One race history and provenance.
