Lot 160 | Memorabilia Online - Part 2
Rubens Barrichello held the record of most number of races in Formula One for many years, most of his career having occurred when there were only around sixteen races per season. He spent six years of his career racing for Ferrari, during which he won nine Grands Prix, and assisted Ferrari to five Constructors' World Championships. His final two wins of his career were with the single season Brawn GP team. He has also raced for Jordan, Stewart, Honda, finishing his long Formula One career with Williams.
This Arai GP5 Mike Fairholme Designs painted helmet number 7 02 was used by Rubens to win the 2002 United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis, the race resulted in the second closest finish in Formula One history with Michael Schumacher finishing in second place 0.011 seconds behind Rubens. The helmet is signed by the driver, retains an original custom Ferrari radio box and comes with a letter of authenticity from MIke Fairholme Designs. There are a number of period photos that show matching details, but the most significant evidence can be seen in a post race image captured by Paul-Henri Cahier where Schumacher is seen congratulating Barrichello on his win. You can clearly see Mike Fairholme Designs Exclusive logo along with the numbers 7-02 on the back of the helmet.
