Countdown is on to Broad Arrow's Single-Owner Offering of Passion for the Drive: The Cars of Jim Taylor

(GLOVERSVILLE, New York) 28 September 2022 – Final preparations are underway for Broad Arrow Auctions’ first-ever single-owner offering; Passion for the Drive: The Cars of Jim Taylor, offered almost entirely without reserve. Set for 14-15 October at Mr. Taylor’s garage in Gloversville, New York, the auction features more than 120 diverse and desirable motor cars, along with over 500 lots of fascinating automobilia amassed over several decades.

Jim Taylor is not only a true car enthusiast but a true driving enthusiast. His assemblage of cars is emblematic of his adventures as arguably one of the most well-traveled enthusiasts in the hobby. Beyond covering all 50 states, Peking-to-Paris, Hong Kong-to-Peking, Peking-to-Everest Base Camp, 16,000 miles around South America, Tijuana-to-Panama, ten days in Turkey, a 4x4 rally in South Africa, two Mille Miglia in Italy, and six days in and around Monaco and the Alps are just some of the further afield rallying and driving credits to his name.

Passion for the Drive represents one man’s experienced understanding of performance and driving dynamics that can only be drawn from hundreds of thousands of miles on and off the open road. In Broad Arrow’s latest auction video, interested bidders catch a behind-the-wheel look at featured cars in the offering, including:

  • A trio of Ford GTs, led by a 2020 Ford GT '69 Heritage Edition, purchased new by Mr. Taylor and one of just 50 examples built (Est. $1,250,000 - $1,500,000, offered without reserve);
  • A 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 Zagato, the 83rd of just 99 examples built, equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and presented in pristine condition (Est. $250,000 - $300,000, offered without reserve);
  • A 1990 Porsche 928 GT, a two-owner, five-speed car, offered in original condition throughout and equipped with a Blaupunkt radio and cassette deck, dual sports mirrors, rear windshield wiper, and original wheels (Est. $50,000 - $60,000, offered without reserve);

  • A low-mileage, six-speed, V-12 1995 BMW 850 CSi, enjoyed by Mr. Taylor for well over a decade and equipped with a power sunroof, BMW Dolby digital stereo, and six-disc CD changer (Est. $150,000 - $200,000, offered without reserve);
  • An excellent 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, one of just 175 examples built for the U.S. market of a model beloved for its massive power and nimble drivability (Est. $300,000 - $350,000, offered without reserve);

  • An iconic 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, a numbers-matching car complete with its original factory-fitted luggage, hardtop and soft top, Nardi steering wheel, and ready for any number of vintage touring and rally events (Est. $1,200,000 - $1,400,000, offered without reserve);
  • A lovingly maintained 1936 Bugatti Type 57 Stelvio with known ownership history and complete with its original chassis, identification plate, and stunning Stelvio coachwork. This eight-cylinder car would be a superb choice to savor on tours and rallies worldwide (Est. $450,000 - $550,000, offered without reserve);
  • A 1954 Cunningham C3 Coupe, Briggs Cunningham's Le Mans car for the road, wearing a meticulous, well-preserved, award-winning concours restoration and formerly owned by Robert B. Cunningham, grandson of its builder (Est. $900,000 - $1,100,000, offered without reserve); and,
  • A 1931 Cadillac Model 370A V-12 Sport Phaeton, a longtime heirloom of the Taylor family, wearing an extremely well-preserved older restoration (Est. $225,000 - $275,000).
